Sweet Success For ROCOL^®

A partnership between ROCOL  and confectionery products manufacturer Lees of Scotland has seen the creation of a 100% food-safe production environment for the company, as well as helping them meet stringent audit requirements.

Lees of Scotland, part of Lees Foods plc, produces a range of meringue and confectionery products for major UK retailers at its factory near Glasgow.  More than 50 million Lees snowballs – mallow covered in chocolate and coconut flakes - are sold in the UK every year.

The firm brought ROCOL in four years ago to evaluate lubrication requirements at its 82,000 sq ft factory using the ROCOLcare® lubrication management system.

Production Director, David Simpson, says, “ROCOL carried out a full site survey to identify our lubrication requirements and developed a detailed lubrication plan. From day one, this has been implemented on a bi-monthly basis by one of ROCOL’s trained service engineers, which frees up my team to focus on their day-to-day work knowing that plant lubrication is taken care of.

“I’m very happy with the service and support ROCOL provides.  What’s more, I can’t recall a single lubrication-related problem at the plant since we introduced ROCOLcare® four years ago.”

The ROCOLcare® lubrication management programme is designed to simplify lubrication for food manufacturers and, ultimately, improve production efficiency.  Developed in partnership with customers to meet their specific site lubrication requirements, it uses products from the NSF-registered FOODLUBE® range to reduce equipment failures and create a manufacturing environment that is totally food-safe.

David adds, “As part of our commitment to food safety, we have an annual two-day EFSIS audit to ensure our plant meets stringent health and food safety standards.  This involves demonstrating that we have the proper plant maintenance systems in place.  The reporting facility that comes as standard within ROCOLcare® means this information is available at the touch of a button, so we don’t have to provide a complete history for every audit.

Using  FOODLUBE® products ticks another box when it comes to audits.  The auditor can see at a glance that the products we are using throughout the factory are NSF registered and therefore guaranteed food safe.”
