Some environments are too hostile for conventional greases; conversely, conventional greases are often aggressive towards delicate environments. PFPE greases are designed to prevent the following issues:

ROCOL food grade PFPE lubricants are perfectly suited to the challenging environment in the food industry. Due to a heavy surface film, ROCOL PFPE lubricants reduce metal-to-metal contact and wear, whilst helping to eliminate seizures and prevent machine down time.
Endure greases will not corrode metals or damage plastic or elastomer seals. These lubricants effectively protect bearings and other food processing machinery under very challenging load and speed conditions — and at continuous temperatures of between -40°C and 280°C. Their extreme resistance to water washout, rust and corrosion provide long-term protection to bearings and other components. ROCOL PFPE lubricants are also unaffected by and non-reactive with acidic or caustic cleaners, disinfectants, steam and moisture.
ROCOL PFPE lubricants are non-flammable, chemically inert, thermally stable, and completely safe to use in all areas of oxygen service.
PFPE lubricants are used in cryogenic pumps, cryogenic blowers, bearings, compressors, connecting rods, valves, fittings, and O-rings, amongst many other mechanical components. The non-flammability and minimal reactivity with processing chemicals provides safe performance and eliminates potential explosive reactions. In addition to being non-reactive with oxygen, they are also safe for use with other oxidising chemicals such as fluorine, chlorine, bromine, HF, etc.
Gas delivery systems in hospitals should be lubricated with PFPE grease to avoid contamination and operational failure. Use of the incorrect grease can cause oxidation, lubricant fires and plastic, rubber or metal compatibility issues. PFPE greases are also used to lubricate robotic machinery in “sealed for life” applications.
Greases used in the oil and gas industry are often exposed to aggressive environments and chemicals. PFPE greases are recommended for use where grease compatibility is essential, for example in valves and pumps, and in ‘sealed for life applications’ particularly offshore.
The ROCOL range of PFPE greases are recommended for use on Ministry of Defence diving, breathable air and aircraft environmental control systems. They are often used in “fit and forget” and “sealed for life” lubricant applications.

A Unique Chemistry
Perfluoropolyether greases are exceptionally resilient to oxidation and combustion due to their unique chemistry.
Most conventional hydrocarbon lubricant base stocks require the addition of antioxidants to protect the lubricant against oxidation. Oxidation occurs when environmental oxygen creates reactive non-charged radicals which attack the hydrocarbon chains, making them shorter and changing the functionality. This can increase viscosity, reduce lubrication, increase TAN (total acid number) and an operator may notice the oil looking dark. PFPEs consist of a large number of carbon-fluorine bonds which are the strongest occurring in organic chemistry. This makes the bonds within PFPEs highly stable and difficult to break, to the point where the molecules can be regarded as inert and no antioxidants are required. PFPEs are resistant to oxidation from free radicals, and also resist attack from aggressive chemicals.
Substances dissolve in solvents which have similarities in chemical structure. Since PFPEs are so unique they will only readily dissolve in other perfluorinated solvents.
Additionally, due to their inert nature ROCOL PFPE greases ensure compatibility with almost all rubbers, plastics and metals.
The PFPE base fluids used in ROCOL PFPE greases have extremely low volatility due to their long carbon chains, which prevents the grease from evaporating when exposed to high vacuums or extensive periods of high temperature.
YVAC 3 is the preferred lubricant for high vacuum applications:
